The perfect handbag is like the cherry on top of the hot fudge sundae that is your outfit. Your look just isn’t complete without the right handbag! So, what’s hot for Fall/Winter 2008-2009? One exciting look for fall is exotic animal skins. Try on snake, alligator, or ostrich for size! Marc Jacobs has a lovely pink ostrich Stam that is both unique and classic. Hooray for you if you can afford it!

As for colors, bold hues are the way to go this year. Dark plums, deep crimsons, blues and berries are the colors to look for. Mulberry, maroon, and metallics too! Metallic bags are still going strong – they are so versatile and a great way to add some eye catching pizzazz to just about any any outfit. But try sticking with more classic, sophisticated totes this fall, and stay away from the oversized bags that are on their way out the door. For another great fall look on the more subtle side, there are some gorgeous bags to be found in beautiful muted pastels and soft grays. Announce your sophistication with a smart handbag in these pastels and you will be both lovely and ready to take on the world.

And now, I want to touch on what you should throw out of your closet. That old ugly Coach bag – you know the one. That dreary one with the logo print. Carrying this around tells the world you’re not ahead of the curve and are just going to go with the status quo. Definitely not a fashion statement! This goes for that Louis Vuitton LV print, or any logo pattern for that matter. Away with it! There’s much more to be excited about. This fall, focus on interesting shapes. Pleated leather, small clutches, unique embellishments. And don’t just limit yourself to the same old high-end names! Try buying handbags from up and coming designers. Go ahead and grab that purse you’ve been eyeing at the local funky boutique. It’ll leave others guessing!
